 Socorro Figueroa

Socorro Figueroa began her volunteer assignment in May, 2008 and has been an exceptional asset to the Placement Resources Division of the County’s Department of Children’s Services.

She provides a valuable function in the Relative Approval Unit by extracting LIVESCANS and California Law Enforcement Telecommunication Systems information from folders in preparation for FBI audit cases.   Her assistance with this time-consuming and required task demands attentive and accurate work, and has met a critical need of the department.

Socorro volunteers four days a week and is consistently punctual, dependable, conscientious and friendly.   Her beautiful smile always illuminates her quiet nature.   She interacts well with staff and is definitely a team player.  She states that she really enjoys volunteering and being able to share her skills and give back to the community by easing the work overload.  She says she has learned a lot about children in need of the care of others.   “Every single person I meet each day definitely makes my day.”

Socorro was a professional travel consultant for 17.  She left this career in 2006 and enrolled at San Bernardino Valley College where she is currently taking classes in business English and computers.  She is bi-lingual and exceptionally gifted in translating and interpreting the Spanish language.

Her volunteering is not limited to just the Department of Children’s Services.  She has volunteered for over thirteen years with the Danza De Aztlan dance group, comprised of children and adults, aged 3 years to 51 years.  Socorro researches the ancient Yucatan Peninsula civilization to share and educate the dance participants about this culture.   They perform at different functions and have been featured at Disneyland and various health fairs.  Scholarships are provided to students from donations received for their performances

Socorro’s dedicated and very generous volunteer service improves and brightens the lives of children and families served by the Department of Children’s Services and the people she touches through her volunteer work with the Danza De Aztlan dance group.  The County of San Bernardino greatly appreciates Socorro’s very generous and dedicated volunteer service.
