Operation Recognition
Veterans Diploma Project

In
an effort to recognize the men and women whose high school education was
interrupted due to their military service or their internment in a
Japanese American relocation camp,
the offices of the county Superintendent of Schools and the county
Department of Veterans Affairs are once again partnering to host Operation
Recognition - Veterans Diploma Project.
Through Operation Recognition – Veterans
Diploma Project, qualified applicants will receive a high school diploma
at the county’s second Operation Recognition ceremony on Thursday,
June 3, 2010 at Coussoulis Arena at Cal State University in San
Bernardino.
“Qualified applicants” are current residents of San Bernardino County and are:
- Honorably-discharged veterans of World War II, the Korean War or the Vietnam War
or
- Japanese American relocation camp internees.

2008 Veterans Diploma Project

This was the third year our department organized this Board-sponsored holiday
collection drive, and it was a great success! San Bernardino County residents
and employees contributed nearly 5000 toys and gifts and $11,000 in cash,
gift cards and prepaid phone cards. Working with The American Legion 25th
District, Yellow Ribbon America and other community groups, we distributed
three pallets of toys to the families of area National Guardsmen at a holiday
welcome home event for solders returning from a 15-month deployment in Iraq.
Military commanders, soldiers, Marines and their families expressed their
appreciation for the generous outpouring of community support.
